Everyone at our Indianapolis, IN Ford dealership gets excited when there’s great news to report about the brand we represent. With that in mind, you can only imagine how we feel when we have historic news to share with you like we do today. Needless to say, we’re absolutely thrilled to tell you that the 2017 Ford F-Series is celebrating an unprecedented 40 years as the best-selling truck in America. And that’s not all! The Ford F-Series has also marked an impressive 35 years as the best-selling vehicle in the United States.

The Ford brand knows that it is you who’s made the Ford F-Series so popular for 40 years. That’s why the company is starting the New Year with a yearlong celebration of Ford F-Series owners as well as their pickup trucks. You can join in on the fun at 40YearsTough.com.

Since January, 1977, the Ford brand has sold more than 26 million F-Series trucks, including the 2017 Ford F-150. To put that figure into perspective, that number of F-Series trucks would cover over 90,000 miles if they were lined up bumper-to-bumper. In other words, that volume of trucks could encircle the earth’s surface more than three times over.

Since the sixth generation of the Ford F-Series was introduced in 1977, the Ford brand has pushed the evolution of its truck lineup. Because of the company’s constant innovation, the Ford F-Series had already become the nation’s top-selling vehicle by 1982. Not content to have the country’s best-selling automobile, the Ford brand continued to be a pioneer, continued to add to its list of achievements, and continued to make improvements to the Ford F-Series lineup. For the seventh time in 30 years, the Ford brand’s ongoing efforts were recognized when the 2017 Ford Super Duty won Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year award.

“What’s made the [Ford] F-Series so successful is the Ford truck team’s ability to anticipate the needs of our customers better than anyone else – how those needs change, what’s most important, and what they need to move forward,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Their insights help us design, engineer, and build America’s best-selling trucks.”
